What are the most asked questions about Bali luxury yacht charter?

Most prospective charter guests ask the bureau the same dozen questions concerning price tiers, departure point, captain credentials, food and provisioning, alcohol policy, the suitability for children, accessibility for guests with limited mobility, decor and styling, photography, and payment terms — answered below in detail.

Pricing tiers across the bureau’s curated fleet run from USD 1,800 for a half-day on a 17-metre sailing yacht through USD 3,200–6,800 per day on a flybridge motor yacht, USD 4,800–9,500 per day on a luxury phinisi cruiser, and up to USD 95,000 for a full week on the bureau’s flagship phinisi. Rates are inclusive of vessel, captain, full crew, marine fuel within the cruising envelope, three meals daily, soft drinks, and standard watersports. Wine and spirits are billed on consumption from a curated cellar. For a forensic line-item breakdown, see our 2026 prices article.
The overwhelming majority of our charters depart from Benoa Harbor on Bali’s south-east coast, where the bureau’s partner operators maintain protected berths and crew quarters. Benoa is twenty minutes by car from Seminyak, twenty-five minutes from Nusa Dua, and fifteen minutes from Ngurah Rai International Airport — making it the most accessible departure point for villa guests, hotel transfers, and arriving flights. For guests staying further afield, we arrange villa pickups by private car and helicopter pickups directly from estate helipads where infrastructure allows.
Every captain on our charter list holds at minimum the Indonesian Class III licence with an additional Komodo navigation endorsement, plus international STCW certification for vessels operating in expedition territory. Each yacht carries current Indonesian flag-state certification, marine insurance covering both vessel and passenger liability, an annual hull survey, and a documented safety equipment inventory exceeding SOLAS Class B requirements. The bureau audits these documents on each vessel annually before listing.
Captain experience on our charter list ranges from a minimum of ten years in Indonesian waters to a senior tier with twenty-five-plus years and over four hundred Komodo crossings. Stewards and chefs are recruited from Bali’s five-star hotel circuit and trained in a charter-service framework that the bureau standardised across the fleet in 2023. Crew-to-guest ratio is never worse than 2:1 on overnight charters, and on the flagship phinisi reaches 1.4:1.
The standard provisioning runs to three full meals plus afternoon tea, with menus designed by the bureau’s culinary lead and adapted to each charter’s dietary preferences during a pre-departure briefing. Breakfast typically includes tropical fruit, fresh-pressed juices, eggs to order, and locally-baked pastries. Lunch is usually a long deck affair — grilled line-caught fish, rendang, or pan-Asian lighter dishes. Dinner is the formal service, often four courses, served on deck under string lights. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal, and kosher kitchens are all available with seven days’ notice. Premium upgrades — a visiting Michelin-trained chef, a sushi master, a wagyu hibachi specialist — are billed on the add-on schedule. See prices article for specific add-on rates.
The bureau bills wine, beer, and spirits on consumption from a curated cellar list of approximately one hundred labels, rather than as part of the headline charter rate. We made this choice because we found that all-inclusive bars invite over-pouring and discourage the careful matching of wine to course. Indicative pricing: serviceable Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc at USD 65, a Provence rosé at USD 90, Pol Roger Brut Reserve at USD 220, vintage Krug at USD 1,400. Local Bintang at USD 6, craft IPA at USD 9. Guests can pre-select a cellar package or request the full list at booking.
Yes, absolutely. The bureau charters frequently with multi-generational families and considers children from infants through teenagers as welcome guests. Practical notes: cruising catamarans are the most child-friendly category because of their level decks and shallow draft. We supply child-sized snorkelling kits, life jackets, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards. The chef adjusts the menu for younger palates with no fuss. Children under five are typically charged at a reduced rate or not at all on multi-night charters; ages six to fourteen at fifty percent of the per-guest food and beverage line. The crew includes at least one steward per cabin who has been briefed on family-friendly service. We have hosted three-generation parties of up to fourteen guests with grandchildren as young as eighteen months, and guests universally report that yachting is a remarkably good format for the younger members of a family.
The bureau is honest that yachts are not the most accessible environment in luxury travel. That said, we charter several vessels — particularly the larger catamarans and the flagship phinisi — with a single-step or zero-step main deck access from a side platform, wheelchair-accessible saloons, ensuite cabins on the main deck without internal stairs, and crew trained in mobility assistance. We strongly recommend a phone consultation in advance so we can match the brief to the right specific yacht and discuss tender access at anchorages.
Yes — and we encourage it. The bureau’s partner stylists arrange floral pathways of frangipani petals to a master cabin, candle-lit proposal setups on the foredeck, signage and printed menus, hibachi-grill anniversary dinners, three-tier birthday cakes baked by Bali’s leading patisseries, and on three occasions in the past two years, full wedding ceremonies on the upper deck. Pricing for styling ranges from USD 480 for a discreet floral and candle setup through to USD 1,800 for a full proposal-evening choreography. We require seven days’ notice for styling additions and we manage the work entirely; guests need only describe the brief.
Yes. The bureau works with three Bali-based photographers who specialise in yacht and editorial work, plus two motion-picture cinematographers for guests wanting a film. Stills photography is USD 800 for a full day with edited gallery delivered within seven days; combined stills and motion with drone is USD 1,400 per day with a three-minute edited highlight reel; full cinematic production is USD 3,200 per day. We strongly recommend booking the photographer at least seven days in advance.
A fifty-percent deposit confirms a booking and holds the dates. The remaining fifty percent is settled on the morning of departure, in person at the harbour, alongside a final route briefing. We accept bank transfer in USD or IDR, and major card payments through our payment partner with a two-percent processing surcharge. Cancellation terms are graduated: full refund up to ninety days before departure, fifty percent up to thirty days, no refund inside thirty days. We offer a single courtesy reschedule for documented medical reasons or for charters cancelled by the bureau due to severe weather. We strongly recommend yacht-charter travel insurance covering medical, weather-cancellation, and unforeseen travel disruption.
For shoulder season charters (April, May, June, September, October, November), the bureau can frequently confirm a charter at two to four weeks’ notice. For high-season departures (Christmas / New Year, July-August European summer, Lunar New Year), we recommend booking three to six months in advance to secure the specific yacht of choice. For multi-day Komodo voyages on the flagship phinisi, six months is typical. The bureau holds a few last-minute slots for guests already in Bali — call us if your dates are inside two weeks and we will work through availability quickly.
In most cases, yes. If a guest wishes to extend a charter mid-voyage — adding a night, adding a day, taking the boat further than the original cruising envelope — we will simply add the additional time to a settlement document at the same daily rate, subject to the boat’s onward booking diary. We have several times in 2025 extended a 5-night Komodo voyage into a 7-night signature on the morning of return, on guest request. The flexibility depends on the specific vessel; the bureau’s flagship phinisi is more often booked back-to-back and less likely to extend than mid-fleet vessels.
The most common route is by car — fifteen minutes — with the bureau’s driver meeting guests in the arrivals hall and escorting them directly to the harbour. For an elevated arrival, we offer helicopter transfer from the airport’s helipad to a Benoa pier in four flight minutes (USD 1,400 single, USD 2,400 return). For guests staying at a Bali villa first, we arrange villa pickup by car or by helicopter where the estate has a private pad.
